Concrete in South Meridian, where the newest yards are still being finished
South of I-84 is where Meridian's growth moved once the north side filled. Many of these yards still have the builder's concrete and nothing else.
South Meridian runs from the interstate down through Overland, Victory and Amity Roads toward Lake Hazel. Bear Creek and the older sections of Tuscany date to around the turn of the century. Century Farms, Reflection Ridge and the streets off Amity are much newer, and new subdivisions keep opening farther south. About half of Meridian's housing was built after 2010, and a lot of it is here, which means a lot of yards with the builder's driveway and a small slab at the back door and nothing else yet. The typical south Meridian job is the second round of concrete: a real patio, an RV pad down the side yard, a wider driveway, a walk to the side gate, a sport court for the kids.
New ground behaves differently. The fill against a two- or three-year-old foundation is still settling, so garage aprons and stoops on newer homes sometimes drop. We lift those rather than replace them when the concrete is sound. Toward Kuna the soil survey maps shallower hardpan, as close as about 19 inches in Colthorp and Pipeline soils, so footings for patio covers, sport-court hoops and shops may need breaking through. HOAs here are typically newer and stricter, with written standards for driveway widths and RV storage. Meridian Road south of the interstate is State Highway 69, so a lot fronting it falls under the Idaho Transportation Department. Most streets are ACHD's.

Questions from South Meridian homeowners
Our house is three years old and the garage apron sank. Is that normal?
It's common. The backfill against a new foundation keeps settling for a few years. If the slab is intact, foam lifting fixes it in a morning, often for under $2,000.
Can we add an RV pad down the side yard?
Usually, if the side setback leaves room and the HOA allows it. Meridian's code allows one RV in an unscreened side yard if none is in the street yard. A 12-by-40 pad runs about $5,200 to $7,400.
How big a patio can we put in?
There's no lot-coverage cap in Meridian's R-4 or R-8 tables, so the limits are setbacks, easements and drainage. Open structures like covered patios can project only 2 feet into a required setback.
Is a pickleball court realistic on our lot?
A full court needs about 30 by 60 feet including run-out. Many south Meridian lots can fit one if the yard is mostly given over to it. A half-court for basketball, about 30 by 30, fits most.
