Concrete in Nampa

Concrete in Nampa, on the Canyon County side of the line

Nampa is the valley's second-largest city at about 127,000 people. It's next door to Meridian but in Canyon County, so ACHD's rules stop at the line and Nampa's own apply.

Forms and rebar laid out for a large shop slab with thickened edges on an acreage lot in the Treasure Valley, a metal shop frame behind it

Nampa's building department publishes clear answers on concrete. A building permit is required for sidewalks, slabs and driveways more than 30 inches above adjacent grade, and for retaining walls 4 feet or taller. All buildings must have a foundation, and the frost depth is 24 inches, the same as Meridian's. For accessory buildings under 600 square feet, Nampa allows a 12-inch-wide by 12-inch-deep footing. So an ordinary driveway or patio at grade doesn't need a City permit, but a shop, a garage or a large shed needs a real foundation drawn and inspected.

Because Nampa is in Canyon County, ACHD doesn't permit work in its streets. Approaches, curb cuts and sidewalks in the right-of-way are permitted by the city, or by a highway district on some outlying roads, and we confirm which at the estimate. The soil survey maps mostly Power and Purdam silt loams around Nampa. Power is deep with no hardpan, while Purdam has its duripan at about 24 inches, so footing digs vary from lot to lot. Nampa's mix of older homes, new subdivisions on the edges and acreage parcels toward Lake Lowell means our work here ranges from replacing worn driveways to pouring long drives and shop slabs on larger lots.

Not ACHD, which covers Ada County only. In Nampa it's the city or, on some outlying roads, a highway district. We check before we quote.
